COD Jajce provided the first eco islands for the Jajce city

As part of the “Circular Economy Week 2023” project. , which is implemented by the Center for Education and Socialization (COD Jajce), on Monday May 29, 2023, the first Eco Islands were installed in Jajce.

These first bins for the selective separation of waste were placed in the settlements of Kokića bašta, in the immediate vicinity of the Nikola Šop gymnasium and two schools under one roof, “Berta Kučera” and “13.rujan”, and in the Bare settlement in Srebrenica Street, near which there is also a children’s playground and a sports hall where children and adults train daily.

Eco islands are made up of four bins for separating waste, in which you can store the waste of packaging, glass, paper and metal. Already after the installation itself, we witnessed positive examples of proper use and separation of waste by students, children from the settlement and young athletes.

Although there are containers for mixed household waste right next to the Eco Island, we hope that over time, citizens will conscientiously separate household waste, and that the city of Jajce itself will find funds for more Eco Islands, which would make the city of Jajce entered as another “green dot”, of cities that works to strengthen social awareness of responsible waste disposal, as well as raising general environmental standards in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Of course, all of this is followed by informing the public about the importance of collecting, selecting and reusing waste in the most ecologically beneficial and acceptable way.

As a reminder, the “Circular Economy Week” project began with a round table in the Small Hall of the Municipality of Jajce on the topic: Potentials and possibilities of waste for the growth of the local economy, which was attended by representatives of the public and private sectors. On this occasion, it was concluded that certain companies such as Aluminika and ThermoFlux are already working on the principle of circular economy, which unfortunately cannot be said for the local community as a whole, and that better information and use of EU funds, education of the population, servicing, and support for young startups.

The round table was followed by a five-day recycling workshop with children, which took place in the premises of KUD Jajce. The children, with the support of the moderator, made completely new objects with new purposes and uses from the used material. The workshops were attended by children from Berta Kučer and 13.rujan elementary schools, as well as young members of KUD Jajce.

The project is supported by the LogEx community and the Heinrich Boll Stiftung, office in Sarajevo.
