COD Jajce has been participating in international volunteering programs for many years, through which young people from different countries come to Jajce, but also young people from our community go to volunteer engagements in Germany and other European countries.

For us, international volunteering is much more than staying in another country. It is an opportunity to learn, exchange experiences and get to know different cultures and perspectives. Volunteers contribute to the work of the local community with their knowledge, energy and ideas, while simultaneously gaining new experiences, developing skills, building friendships and better understanding the societies and cultures they come from.

We are especially glad that these days at COD we welcomed two new volunteers from Germany – Lena and Lieselotte, who will spend the next year in Jajce and be part of our daily activities.

Meet Lena

“Hello, my name is Lena; I am 19 years old and come from Halle an der Saale in Germany.

I enjoy playing volleyball, reading, and hiking.

For years, I have wanted to spend a year abroad volunteering after finishing school. In 2023, I spent six months attending school in the USA, an experience that showed me just how exciting and enriching life in another country can be.

My family’s connection to Bosnia is what particularly drew me to the country. My father is originally from Bosnia, and that is why I want to get to know and understand the country and its culture better over the coming year.

Naturally, I hope to learn the Bosnian language, have the opportunity to implement my own social projects, and contribute new perspectives. I hope that through my involvement, I can support COD in empowering young people and creating a safe, open space for mutual exchange.

I am very happy to be living in Jajce for a year, to get to know the city and all its beautiful spots, and to become part of COD.”

Meet Lieselotte

“Hello, my name is Lieselotte; I am 18 years old and come from Halle an der Saale in Germany. I finished school in Germany and am now starting my volunteer placement at COD Jajce.

After finishing school, I had long wanted to spend a year abroad to gain new experiences, get a close-up look at a different culture, and have the opportunity to get involved in social work.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, reading, and playing sports. I am also interested in politics and history.

I hope that during this year, I will be able to support COD and actively participate in empowering young people and fostering dialogue in the city, as well as gain new perspectives and contribute my own ideas.

I look forward to getting to know the city and meeting new people, exchanging ideas, and learning more about the local culture. I also want to explore nature, travel across Bosnia and Herzegovina, and drink lots and lots of coffee.”
