After two months spent at the volunteer service in Austria, our volunteer Matej Ljubičić returned home richer for new knowledge, experiences and friendships. Through the international volunteering program, Matej stayed in Klagenfurt from April to the end of May, where he volunteered in the Naturfreunde organization.
Even before this experience, Matej was an active volunteer and participated in the Weltwärts program in Germany. It was the desire for new experiences, meeting people and actively contributing to the community that motivated him to apply for this volunteer service.
During his stay in Austria, he worked primarily with children, participating in the organization and realization of climbing courses, but also numerous public events and festivals throughout the region. The dynamic work environment allowed him to gain new organizational experiences, develop communication skills and get to know different approaches to working with young people.
In addition to volunteer activities, he had the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Austrian province of Carinthia. He was particularly impressed by the peaceful areas around Lake Wörthersee and Lake Klopeiner See, where he often spent his free time enjoying nature, walking and socializing with other volunteers.
“Being in nature really allows a person to breathe and find inner peace. Walks in the forests, beautiful viewpoints and sounds of nature left a strong mark on me”, Matej points out.
This experience helped him to get to know himself better, develop greater environmental awareness and further strengthen his social and organizational skills. He considers the people he met and the warmth of the community that accepted him during his stay in Klagenfurt to be especially valuable.
International volunteering provides young people with the opportunity for personal development, acquiring new skills and getting to know other cultures.
